Jiwon Jung
Jiwon Jung received her M.A. in 2018 from Korea University in Russian Literature. She then completed her Ph.D. program as an ABD student in 2021 at Korea University before starting her new Ph.D. program at Northwestern University. During her graduate program in Korea, Jiwon published a Korean translation of Leo Tolstoy’s “The Death of Ivan Ilyich” and ‘The Memoirs of a Madman’ with her advisor in 2018. In her M.A. thesis “Literature and Medicine in A. Chekhov”, she explores the meanings of Chekhov’s interest in psychiatry reflected in his literary works and examines its significance in both the literary and medical fields. Her current interests include the works of Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, philosophical and aesthetic problems reflected in 19th century Russian prose, Bakhtin’s literary theory, and the intersection of literature and medicine.
